A trio of teams in the smaller classifications in the “Southern Six” will be playing for championships Friday night in their respective region basketball tournaments.

Both squads from St. Patrick High School will be battling for titles in the Region 8-3A Tournament taking place at West Marion High school, as both the Lady Irish and Fighting Irish will face Tylertown in the finals with the girls’ game scheduled for 7 p.m., and the boys’ contest to follow at 8:30.

The Lady Irish came into the event as the fourth seed and needed a pair of wins to reach the finals, which they did by beating on Perry Central 48-9 on Monday and then St. Patrick girls defeating West Marion 48-33 Tuesday to advance to the championship game.

The Fighting Irish knocked off host West Marion on Tuesday night 66-38 to move into Friday’s title tilt.

Manwhile, also in the Region 8-3A tourney, St. Stanislaus saw its season come to a grinding halt with a 49-36 loss to home-standing West Marion which pushed the Trojans into their semi-final match-up with St. Patrick Tuesday.

Elsewhere, in the Region 8-1A Tournament taking place at Enterprise-Lincoln High school, the Resurrection boys knocked off Salem 44-31 in Tuesday’s semi-finals to move into Friday’s championship game where the Eag;es will meet Richton at 7:30.
