On August 26, more than 8,000 properties will go up for online auction during the Jackson County Annual Land Tax Sale. The list of delinquent property taxes will be published in the Mississippi Press on August 14 and 21.

How to participate in Online Land Tax Sale

Those interested in participating in the sale can register online at www.govease.com/auctions from July 29 until the end of the sale. All bids must be submitted through the website – paper bids will not be accepted. Bidding will take place daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Monday, August 26, until all parcels are sold.

There is no fee to register; however, accounts will not be activated until the bidder provides the Jackson County Tax Collector’s Office with a copy of their photo ID and arranges for payment. Forms of payment include; cash, Money Order, Cashier’s Check, business check, MasterCard, VISA, Discover, American Express, and wire transfers. A fee of up to 2.5% will be charged on payments made by debit or credit cards.

What if your property is on the Land Tax Sale List?

Jackson County property owners must pay their 2018 property taxes by Friday, August 23, 2019, to prevent their parcel from being included in the County’s annual Land Tax Sale.

It is important to remember, all prior or back taxes for a piece of property must be paid before the owner can pay for current taxes. Once a parcel is sold at the tax sale, the original property owner has a two year redemption period to pay the taxes plus interest (1.5% per month) through the Chancery Clerk’s office. If payment occurs, the “tax sale purchaser” will be reimbursed their initial tax payment plus the interest.

The 2018 property tax billing statements were mailed last November and were due in February. Property owners who pay their taxes through a home’s mortgage or other types of loans do not receive a statement. All prior taxes for a parcel must be paid at the Chancery Clerk’s office at the County Services Complex location.

To find out the current amount due, call or visit the Tax Collector’s Office in person.
