In October, The Chevron Pascagoula Refinery partnered with non-profit organization Mississippi Gulf Fishing Banks (MGFB) to donate surplus equipment for use as artificial reefs offshore.
Four carbon steel structures from a recent refinery project that were never used as manufacturing equipment have been repurposed as artificial fishing reefs. Three of the structures weigh approximately 15 tons each and are 20 feet high and 40 feet wide. One of the structures weighs roughly 10 tons and is 45 feet high and 10 feet wide.
Equipment was loaded at the Port of Pascagoula and taken into the gulf on a barge.
In addition to the steel structures, Chevron donated $30,000 to MGFB to support the deployment of the reefs this summer.
Wyatt Field Services, Barnhart Crane & Rigging, Performance Contractors and Vice Brothers have provided in-kind services to support the donation, including fabrication services to prepare the equipment for transportation and deployment, and crane services to lift the structures to the MGFB barge.
