Longtime arch-rivals Biloxi and Gulfport picked up big wins in boys’ prep basketball action earlier this week.
The Admirals of head coach Owen Miller wrapped up Region 8-6A regular season action with a 60-41 win on Senior Night over visiting Harrison Central Tuesday, moving to 22-5 overall on the season and solidly securing the second seed in the upcoming region tourney in the process with a 4-2 mark.
Gulfport placed a trio of players in double digits in the win, guided by Kamari Mitchell’s 19 points while Kylan Howze added 12 points and Jylan Howze chipped in 10 points.
Gulfport closes out the regular season by traveling to Gautier Friday night.
Biloxi, under the leadership of head coach Seber Windham, knocked off visiting Moss Point on Senior Night Tuesday as well 79-50 as the Indians earned their 20th win of the season.
James Turner poured in a game-high 25 points to lead the Indians to the win, while Duran Parish added 13 points, eight assists, nine steals and seven rebounds in an outstanding effort to the winning cause. Biloxi stands 20-3 overall.
Moss Point got 14 points apiece from Kedrick Kedrick Osby and Quaeysean Taylor.

The Tigers wrap up the regular season at home in Arthur Haynes Gym Friday night against arch-rival Pascagoula, while the Indians finish up the regular season at home against Bayside Academy of Daphne, Ala., Friday night as well.
Speaking of Pascagoula, the Panthers celebrated Senior Night with a win as well, taking down rival Gautier Tuesday 64-30.
Elsewhere in boys’ prep hoops play in the “Southern Six” this week, Picayune beat home-standing Bay High Tuesday 54-27. The Maroon Tide got 13 points from Dakieth Quinn, 11 points from Josh Holmes, 10 points from Ty Warren and eight points from Troy Carter in a balanced scoring attack for the win.
Picayune bounced back from a close one-point loss late in regulation to McGill-Toolen over the weekend in Hoopsfest 2023. The Maroon Tide travel to Hancock to wrap up regular season play Thursday night.
Also, the Ocean Springs Greyhounds have already picked up a pair of wins this week as they beat Hancock on the road Tuesday 59-45 then returned home and beat St. Luke’s Episcopal from Mobile, Ala., on Wednesday 64-61 to wrap up the regular season.
