    Fresh Shrimp For Sale!

Shrimp season is underway on the Mississippi Coast! Fresh Shrimp is for sale for the barbecue, the frying pan, a boil, any way you like your shrimp. Fresh local shrimp is the best way to go!

Fresh shrimp are brought in daily by the fleet of independent shrimping boats across the MS coast from Pass Christian to Ocean Springs. June is early in the season, this time of year there are often several boats selling fresh shrimp from the docks. Look for the “OPEN” flags and find which boats have fresh shrimp available.

The BEST locations to find shrimp for sale directly to the public:

    • Biloxi Small Craft Harbor behind Hard Rock Casino
    • Ocean Springs Small Craft Harbor down from Front Beach
    • Pass Christian Harbor in Pass Christian off Beach Blvd

The boats come in many sizes, most go out with two or three members of crew, some of their gas tanks can hold 800 gallons, with the larger boats have tanks that can take on 20,000 gallons of fuel. Consider filing up that size tank with today’s Diesel fuel prices. One boat, Steven Le in Ocean Springs, claims to use 140 gallons of diesel per shrimping trip.

With Diesel fuel prices increasing, expect to pay a little more for shrimp this season. Currently, large-size 10 – 15 count, shrimp are selling for about $6.00 to $7.00/lb, prices do vary. The catch is starting out with smaller shrimp, still, there are plenty of large ones to be found.

An Ocean Springs resident buying several pounds, said, “It’s fresh, it’s local. Oh, it’s high, it’s higher this year. But with gas prices, it can’t be helped.” The hard-working shrimpers of the Mississippi Gulf Coast are keeping their prices reasonable.

The temperature is hot and so is the demand for the tasty fresh local shrimp from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Come down and get some today.
