Painter Sandra Halat and ceramist Ellen Ellis Lee, both of Ocean Springs, are featured in a joint show of “A Few of Our Favorite Things,” at The Art House.
Their show will be in the featured artist’s room through Nov. 14. Because face masks are required inside The Art House as well as social distancing, there will be no opening reception. However, guests are invited to stop by to view the show and browse the rooms of original art.
Halat is retired as an instructor at Jefferson Davis campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. This has given her more time to pursue her passion for “Making Art.” While she has worked in a multitude of media and subject matter throughout her career as an artist, her favorite subject is the human figure. Her favorite media is a combination of mark-making and painting.
Lee looks to nature’s gifts to create her one-of-a-kind mixed media figurative sculptures and vases. A native of Laurel, Lee returned to Mississippi when she retired from working in theater in New York City. She has been a resident of Ocean Springs since 2000.
The Art House is the nonprofit co-op of the Ocean Springs Art Association for the past 20 years. The 1920s era cottage is filled with original paintings, pottery, glass, jewelry and more created by the 24 members.
Located at 921 Cash Alley, one block east of Washington Avenue between DeSoto and Robinson streets, The Art House is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
