Singing River Electric Cooperative recently held the first of four free Energy Fairs for members. Located at the Helena Community Center in Jackson County on Wed., April 10, this fair had six stations with information on home building, efficiency, lighting, heating, and cooling, solar and electric vehicles.

“We wanted to bring custom advice and expert knowledge to the members where they live,” said the

Members get firsthand knowledge about all-electric (AEV) and hybrid (HPEV) vehicles from Cooperative Energy’s member relations coordinator Amy Griffin at SRE’s recent Energy Fair.

manager of energy services Nick DeAngelo. “Each year we work to move the fairs around so our members from different parts of the service area can all participate locally at some point.”

Participants can touch and see actual wall sections with a variety of different insulation types, get advice on DIY efficiency projects, and learn firsthand about lighting brightness, color and watts used.

In addition to home building advice and efficiency, the co-op also added the Cooperative Energy electric vehicle to this year’s fair. Members were able to learn the difference between All-Electric Vehicles (AEVs) and Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs), and see in person the look and feel of an electric car. As batteries improve, costs decline and supplies increase, electric vehicles will be a good fit for Singing River Electric member-consumers.

So join us at our upcoming Energy Fairs:

    • April 24 – Fontainebleau Community Center – Highway 57 in Ocean Springs, from 3-6 p.m.
    • May 15 – District 4 Community Center – 8232 Old 63 North in Greene County, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
    • June 27 – SRE Office – 11187 Old 63 South in Lucedale, from 3-6 p.m.

As an electric cooperative, we are member-driven and built by the communities we serve. For more information, visit singingriver.com or join our social media conversations on Facebook/ Instagram (SingingRiverElectric) and Twitter (SRECooperative).
