Visit WAMA for Free on Museum Day

Walter Anderson Museum of Art will again be participating in the Smithsonian Magazine’s thirteenth annual Museum Day, opening its doors free of charge for guests on Saturday, Sept. 22. For the free event, WAMA will have their normal exhibitions up, including 90 Years of Shearwater and Charlie Busler: Inspirations from Walter. They will also be offering two docent led tours at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. that day. “We decided to be a part of this because it allows us to take advantage of The Smithsonian’s large network as well as making the museum available to new art lovers,” said Corey Christy, director of Membership and Community Development. “It allows people to come in and see the museum who may have done so otherwise.” This is the second year WAMA has participated in this national event, which is an initiative in which participating museums across the United States emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian’s Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities – which offer free admission every day. Last year, they had close to 100 people attend the Museum Day event. Christy encouraged everyone to take advantage of the day “because it is a chance to learn about an American Master who has helped shape Ocean Springs. FOR FREE!!”
