    Hattiesburg Zoo’s Animal Athletes Preparing for Competition in Honor of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris

    In honor of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the Hattiesburg Zoo’s animal residents couldn’t resist getting in on the fun!  

    Over the next two weeks, during the Olympic Summer Games, the Hattiesburg Zoo will be featuring its animal athletes and the sports they will be competing in (or hope to be competing in) this summer!  The animals and their Zookeepers hope you will stop by the Zoo during their training and competitions to see them in action at Hattiesburg Zooooolympics.  Features will be posted on the Hattiesburg Zoo’s social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.  

    Animal Athletes and their sports are:

    Lumpy, Sloth Sport Climbing

    Twig, Ostrich 10,000 Meter Race

    Kevin Bacon, Kunekune PigSoccer

    Turner, Crowned Crane Long Jump

    Violet and Eloise, Goat Gymnastics, Vault

    Bunga, Malayan Tiger High Jump

    Piper, Howler Monkey Gymnastics, Uneven Bars

    Sam, Jack and Jenny, Donkey Competitive Eating

    Gidget, Cotton Top Tamarin Gymnastics, Uneven Bars

    Bo, Miniature Zebu Cattle Leg over Leg Pull

    Coco, Felix and Tony, Capybara Artistic Swimming (Formerly Synchronized Swimming)

    Hope, Bertie and Sue Ellen, Giraffe 3 on 3 Basketball

    The Hattiesburg Zoo sends GOOD LUCK WISHES to all athletes competing in Olympic Games this summer!
