Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College announces the successful reaccreditation of its Culinary Arts Technology and Baking & Pastry Arts Technology programs through the prestigious American Culinary Federation (ACF). The accreditation, awarded for five years, underscores the commitment of MGCCC to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in culinary education.
The American Culinary Federation, through its honor society, the American Academy of Chefs (AAC), sets the gold standard for culinary education and professionalism within the industry. The rigorous certification process ensures that students enrolled in MGCCC’s Culinary Arts Technology and Baking & Pastry Arts programs receive a superior education, positioning them for success in the culinary field and demonstrating to prospective employers that graduates are well-prepared to meet industry requirements.
“MGCCC’s Culinary Arts Technology and Baking & Pastry Arts programs provide a solid foundation in the methods and science of cooking,” Chef Lori Pearce, MGCCC’s Baking & Pastry Arts instructor, said. “Special emphasis is placed on culinary tools, equipment, techniques, and specialty ingredients. The heart of each program is hands-on lab instruction by a chef instructor in a commercial kitchen. Our courses parallel those of the Culinary Institute of America, offering students the opportunity for certification in the American Culinary Federation.”
The comprehensive curriculum ensures that students gain valuable insights into the culinary arts, preparing them for successful careers or further education. Graduates of MGCCC’s programs may choose to transfer to a four-year college or university. A partnership with Mississippi University for Women allows culinary arts students to seamlessly pursue a bachelor’s degree on the Coast through the enhanced Two Plus Two program. This collaborative initiative facilitates a smooth transition for MGCCC associate degree graduates in culinary arts to complete their four-year degree at MUW. MGCCC’s Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts Technology programs also have agreements for transfer to the University of South Alabama and Mississippi State University for the culinary programs there.
“The reaccreditation of MGCCC’s Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts programs reflects a continued commitment to excellence and innovation in culinary education,” said Chef Todd Reilly, MGCCC’s Culinary Arts program instructor. “Our programs are poised to continue shaping the next generation of culinary professionals, providing them the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the dynamic culinary landscape on the Mississippi Coast and beyond.”
