    Prep baseball: Hancock sweeps Long Beach and then Vancleave knocks off the Hawks; Pascagoula gets win

    There was other prep baseball action in the “Southern Six” in addition to the annual Battle at the Beach recently.
    Hancock swept a home-and-home series with Long Beach last week, winning 9-7 at LBHS on Tuesday and then 9-8 at home in the Kiln on Friday.
    In game one, Max Garrett smashed a two-run home run for the Hawks in the winning effort, while Seth Ostheimer led Hanckock’s 10-hit attack with a game-high three hits and he also drove in a pair of runs. Tanner Ladner also had two hits and two RBIs and drove in a run. Jaxson Knight added a run-scoring double as well.
    Jake Thomas had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Bearcats at the plate. Hunter Blackwell and Ashton Schepens also added a pair of hits each, including a double apiece for LBHS, and Schepens drove in a run.
    Garrett picked up the win in relief of Ostheimer, while Will Brady took the loss.

    Long Beach was set to face Pascagoula on Saturday afternoon, but that game was canceled due to wet playing conditions. The Panthers were coming off a Thursday night win over visiting Mize on Military appreciation night 11-1.
    Tank Bishop picked up the win with a complete game one-hit performance on the hill. Braden Scott paced Pascagoula at the plate with a game-high three hits and a game-high three RBIs. Both Griffin Wells and Mississippi State signee Keilon Parnell registered a pair of hits as did Angel Solivan in the win for PHS. The Panthers host Harrison Central Tuesday. Long Beach begins Region 7-5A play in Carriere against Pearl River Central on the same night
    After the two-game sweep over Long Beach, Hancock hosted Vancleave on Saturday and the Bulldogs came away with an 11-2 win.
    Tyler West had two hits, including a home run, and he drove in a game-high four runs for VHS, while like West, Asher Henley, Hunter Parker, Tanner Willis and Robert Tinson each added two hits apiece to the winning 12-hit attack for the Bulldogs and Henley, Tinson and Laytn Eder each recorded a double. Sophomore Martin Shaw added a run-scoring double for VHS.

    Vancleave was coming off of playing a trio of games in the annual Battle at the Beach.

    Max Garrett homered for the second straight game for Hancock, while Tanner Ladner also added a home run for the Hawks. Peyton DeWitt led HHS with three hits, while Jeffery Hopgood chipped in two hits and an RBI.
    Hunter Harper earned the win for Vancleave, while Knight took the loss for Hancock. The Hawks begin Region 8-6A play Tuesday night vs. D’Iberville while VHS starts a home-and-home series Tuesday with Bay High.
