On Thursday, Mississippi’s two Minor League Baseball teams, the Mississippi Braves and the Biloxi Shuckers, announced their 2021 schedules.
Both clubs will enjoy 120-game regular seasons, each of which will include 10 home and 10 road series. It’ll be the first time either team has suited up since 2019 as the entire 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“First and foremost, we’d like to thank our incredible fans for their patience and support during the last 11 months,” Mississippi Braves vice president and general manager Pete Laven said. “We are very excited to announce our 2021 schedule, signifying M-Braves baseball’s return to central Mississippi this spring.”
The Braves, who are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, will open the season at home on Tuesday, May 4, versus the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, while the Shuckers, who are the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, will begin their season on the road against the Birmingham Barons—also on May 4.
The home opener for the Shuckers will be on Tuesday, May 11 when the Braves make the trip down to the coast to play at MGM Park.
Both the Braves and the Shuckers compete in the four-team South Division as part of the eight-team Double-A South in MLB’s new Professional Development League structure. The other two South Division opponents are the Montgomery Biscuits (Tampa Bay Rays) and the Blue Wahoos (Miami Marlins). The North Division consists of the Birmingham Barons (Chicago White Sox), Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinnati Reds), Rocket City Trash Pandas (LA Angels), and the Tennessee Smokies (Chicago Cubs).
