East Central Public Library Invites Families to Join “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” Challenge
HURLEY, MS – The East Central Public Library is excited to launch the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading in young children. This free, year-round challenge encourages families to read together and track their progress, one book at a time.
The program is open to children from birth to age 5. Even repeated books count, and families can earn a small prize for every 100 books read. After reaching the 1,000-book milestone, participants will receive a special prize to celebrate their achievement.
Sign-ups begin this September at East Central Public Library. “Reading with your child every day builds vocabulary, strengthens bonds, and lays the foundation for future learning,” said Lynn Rainey, branch manager.

East Central Public Library Hosts Teen Scented Candle Workshop
HURLEY, MS – Teens are invited to get creative and cozy at the East Central Public Library on Thursday, September 4 at 3:00 p.m. during a hands-on scented candle-making workshop. Participants will design and create their very own candles to take home, perfect for adding a personal touch to any space.
All supplies will be provided, thanks to the support of the Friends of the Library. This free event is open to teens, but space is limited, arrive early to join the fun!
East Central Public Library Invites “Tribblemakers” to Celebrate Star Trek Day
HURLEY, MS – Beam yourself over to the East Central Public Library for an out-of-this-world celebration of Star Trek Day! On Monday, September 8, at 2:00 p.m., teens and adults (ages 13 and up) are invited to join the fun by creating their own fuzzy little Tribble—no transporter required.
All supplies will be provided for this hands-on craft session inspired by one of Star Trek’s most famous episodes. Whether you’re a lifelong Trekkie or just boldly going into the galaxy for the first time, this program is sure to be a hit.

Puzzle Competition
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ There is a puzzle competition at the Ocean Springs Municipal Library located at 525 Dewey Ave on the first Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. There’s no need to pay for admission. Patrons will be divided into four groups and given a specific amount of time to complete a jigsaw puzzle. LEGO Club Returns to St. Martin Public Library
ST. MARTIN, MS — Calling all young builders! The St. Martin Public Library is hosting LEGO Clubon Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18, and Dec. 16 at 3:30 p.m. Children will explore their creativity by building unique projects based on different themes and challenges each month.
