The Coffee Shop Tour of Jackson County – Part 2

Business Spotlight: Delos’s Heavenly House of Coffee

Tucked away in Baywood Commons on the Gautier-Vancleave Road, Delos’s Heavenly House of Coffee is another of Jackson County’s great meeting places where you can get a great cup of coffee and as much conversation as you wish. Strangers are not allowed at Delos’s, because even if you are a stranger when you walk in the door, you will not be when you leave. Delores Nettles will make sure of that! And you will likely be introduced to several “new” friends in the process. In many ways, Delos’s is like your Mama’s kitchen, where you can sit a spell and get sage advice from the parent that knows you best. Delores is also a good listener, and as with your Mama, you will leave the place in better spirits then when you walked in. For Delores, it is all about sharing love and attention to everyone that comes through the door, hopefully again and again.

Delores Nettles always ready to hand you a warm cup of coffee.

Opened for the last 13 years, Delos’s is a comfortable place to meet with your friends and catch up, share stories, or just sit – and feel at home. And Delores is not far away, making sure that you have what you need, whether from behind the counter, amidst what sounds like the chaos that is coffee-making, or sitting with you and lending you her ear. And yes, she remembers everyone’s favorite drink. For many groups that find their way to Delos’s, the upstairs loft is their “living room” where they plop down in a comfortable chair and feel right at home. And why does she do it? According to Delores, “I love people, I love coffee, and people need to taste and see that the Lord is Good”. And although she loves all of her patrons, she is especially fond of the many teachers and students from the nearby junior college or other schools that, in her words, “need someone to take care of them”. For these folks, Delos’s is within their circle of travel that brings them by on a regular basis.

Beyond coffee, you can enjoy pastries and sandwiches made on site, purchase local honey, pottery and art from local artists, and the latest addition – River 38 Coffee – a partnership with Ingalls Shipbuilding. Delos’s also supplies coffee for a number of local businesses and schools. And in 2016, the Delos’s Heavenly Coffee Corner opened in the Singing River HeathPlex, within the circle of yet another group of folks seeking their comfort drink of coffee or tea. Beyond the confines of these two locations, Delores is an active member of the Jackson County and Gulf Coast Chambers of Commerce, a participant in Goldman Sach’s Small Business Program, and a proud supporter of the One Coast Initiative. Within her community circle, Delores also provides gift cards and gift baskets for teachers, schools and for other worthy causes. So, if your travels take your through Gautier, make your way to 3880 Gautier Van Cleave Rd and gain a new friend – who will remember your name.

More on other great coffee spots to come!!! Because, there is always time for a great cup of coffee, at a fair price, made by your friends and neighbors, in the place that we all call home.

Hope to see you at “your” favorite coffee shop soon!!!
