A longtime Greene County convenience store has reopened under new ownership, bringing fuel, food and a family gathering spot back to the community after closing in April.
Formerly known as the Junction, the store celebrated its grand opening Oct. 29 as GC Corner Store. The new owners purchased the property in September and renovated the building before reopening.
Located about 6 miles from Leakesville, the store offers gasoline, off-road diesel, beer and prepared food. Plans for the kitchen include Hunt Brothers Pizza and a grill serving breakfast and lunch options.
Breakfast is served beginning at 4 a.m., with hamburgers, chicken tenders and other options available later in the day.
Kitty Chambliss, the store’s manager, said renovations included a new air conditioning unit and updated ductwork, creating a more open space.
“It looks bigger in here. The things that we did to it just opened it up so much better,” Chambliss said.
For generations of residents, the Junction was more than a place to fill up a gas tank. It was a familiar stop and gathering spot for the surrounding community.

Chambliss said the reopening gives residents a convenient place to shop without traveling further from home.
“It’s just convenient. Nothing else around close by, so it’s very convenient for the locals,” she said.
Robert Lee, a longtime customer, said he regularly purchases fuel for his heavy equipment and farm machinery at the location.
“I do a lot of business here. I’ve done a lot of business in the past,” Lee said. “I bought quite a bit of fuel.”
GC Corner Store is open Monday through Saturday from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 30 MS 594, Leakesville. The store can be reached at 601-490-7102.
