If you’re looking for an adventure for the family that’s not too far from home, why not take your crew on an art treasure hunt in The Hub City? Sponsored by the Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art, the Hburg Public Art Trail provides a wonderful and safe opportunity to explore downtown Hattiesburg and other parts of the city while you’re treated to some fun and stunning murals. It’s like a magical mural art maze that is fun for everyone and showcases some work from some very talented artists.

Creativity is key to enjoying so much in life, and Hattiesburg’s art scene helps give a beautiful and interesting combination of adding a little bit of art and exercise in a socially distanced adventure that has been an absolute hit with families and travelers to The Hub City.

A downloadable brochure, map, and easy-to-spot signs are super beneficial when it comes to the trail. You can download the brochure right here or download the VisitHBURG app on your phone to plot your course. The exquisite murals can be viewed in a variety of ways whether you’d like to walk through the town or ride by car or bicycle, but anyway that you go, you can’t go wrong. This is simply something too special to miss.

The theme of the Hattiesburg Public Art Trail is to enrich, beautify, and inspire, and you’ll definitely be inspired and uplifted by the talented murals and sculptures that seem to cover the whole city, taking you from the University of Southern Mississippi to the historic downtown district. In the brochure, you’re guided to murals throughout the city and are reminded to look for official trail stop signs throughout your journey. Everyone is invited to get out and enjoy these beautiful works.

Don’t miss the beautiful work of the Mosaic Tree by Mario Vaccarella Christensen, the Let there be Light mural by Kim Garraway-Braley and River Prince, and you definitely don’t want to miss the Hub City, Smile mural also done by Prince. There are so many photo opportunities, and you’re encouraged to post your pics on Instagram or all social media outlets with #ArtHBURG or #MuralsofHBURG.

Exquisite sculptures are located around the Hub: The Vine at 4 AM, Hattie the Elephant and Gracie the Goat at the front gates of the zoo, and the 9/11 Memorial Plaza. You will discover so much more on your magical mural adventure of art through the Hub City. The trail features over 40 works of art that display the talented culture of Hattiesburg.

Hattiesburg Mayor encourages all to come enjoy the murals and sculptures that celebrate the diversity of the cultural scene and the city. He hopes to celebrate the work and talent of these artists that have contributed to the project. To make the venture even more fun, there is a Hattiesburg Art-A-Thon that continues until May 31. Participants can view the art at their own pace, and participants in the Art-A-Thon will be provided a passport that can be redeemed at various shops and restaurants for prizes. For more information on the Hattiesburg Art-A-Thon and to get a map of the trail, please visit hattiesburgpublicart.org. Come out and enjoy the beauty of the city.
