The Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA) presents the 2019 Children’s Art Show, Walter Anderson’s Creatures from the Deep. Join us on Sunday, May 5 from noon-3 p.m. for this family friendly event. Aquatic-themed costumes are strongly encouraged!
The Museum invites children in 4th-8th grades to submit their artistic interpretations of creatures of the sea, in the spirit of Walter’s many Gulf Coast inspired paintings, prints, and sculptures. Original student work in all media is welcome, with a limit of one entry per student. Two-dimensional work should be no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches, roughly the same size as the typewriter paper Walter used for many of his Horn Island watercolors.
A panel of judges will select 3 winners, who will earn a scholarship to one of the Museum’s summer art camps. Two additional honorable mentions will receive a complimentary year of museum membership. All students will be awarded a certificate honoring their creativity and inclusion.
Interested students can submit artwork to the Museum on Thursday, May 2 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Submissions can be picked up on Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. For questions or special arrangements, contact Director of Education Tony DiFatta at educate@walterandersonmuseum.org.
This is a free event with a suggested $5 donation, which helps support the museum and its mission. Sponsored by Dickie Roberts and Dr. Edward Aldridge.
