Take a trip back in time and get a chance to see life on the farm like our grandparents did at Mitchell Farms in Collins.

In the piney woods of southeast Mississippi, Mitchell Farms was started by Nelda and Dennis Mitchell in 1960 as a cotton and cattle farm. The farm, steeped in history, then began growing row crops and developed into one of the top peanut locations in the 1970s.

So, if you’re looking for some of the best peanuts around, Mitchell Farms is the place for you! Other crops currently available for purchase are corn, wheat, soybeans, and pine plantations.

Mitchell Farms began producing vegetables in the 1980s and began its very successful venture into agritourism in 2008 when the Mitchells’ daughter-in-law, Jo Lynn, began working full-time. Jo Lynn helped Mitchell Farms transition into a major fall tourism destination with a top-ranked pumpkin patch and an expansive corn maze.

“The pumpkin patch works wonderfully with it being in the fall when the peanuts are being harvested,” Jo Lynn explained. “Today, Mitchell Farms is one of the largest pumpkin patches in the state and offers fun on the farm activities for children and adults. From the variety of pumpkins to choose from, field of sunflowers, boiled peanuts, kettle corn, blueberry lemonade, and the family-friendly environment, the farm is enjoyed by thousands every October.”

On top of its size, the pumpkin patch at Mitchell Farms has been ranked America’s best by Trip Advisor.

Pumpkins aside, one of the most popular annual events at Mitchell Farms is the peanut festival. The 13th Mississippi Peanut Festival is set to be held on Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Oct. 8, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The festival includes food vendors, arts and crafts, and of course peanuts!

If you can’t make it for the pumpkin patch or the peanut festival – or you just simply feel the need to visit Mitchell Farms as you read this article – you’re in luck. Mitchell Farms welcomes visitors year-round.

“We offer trailer ride tours of the farm, a corn maze, round hay maze, train ride, hay mountain, rope swings, jumping pillows, slides, animals, and lots of fun for everyone,” Jo Lynn continued.
