The Hattiesburg Zoo is a one-of-a-kind place that has something for everyone! Despite its smaller size, the 12-acre zoo packs a big punch and has become the heart of the Hub City community.

From Tuesday-Sunday, you can go to the Hattiesburg Zoo and see more than 100 species of animals from around the world. Zoo facilities include picnic areas, a train ride, carousel, concessions, splash pad, a mining station, petting zoo, African drum station, gift shop, and even a Wallaby Walkabout!

As if that’s not enough to do, the zoo hosts community events often. They are known for quality family events such as their “Zoo Boo” at Halloween and the “Zoo Lights” during the holiday season. The Zoo also hosts “Sensory Sunday” at different times throughout the year to accommodate those with sensory needs.

You will find a high ropes course nestled in towards the back of the zoo for those who seek adventure at all ages. In addition to various events for children and adults, the Hattiesburg Zoo is a great place for a date night, a school field trip, or a birthday party! Cabanas are available to rent as well!

On May 15, the Zoo opened its much anticipated African Expansion project, featuring a first for Hattiesburg Zoo—giraffes! Mama Giraffe, Sue Ellen, and her baby, Alberta, have been attracting visitors from near and far over the last week or so. This expansion project has been years in the making and is a beautiful new addition to the zoo.

The Hattiesburg Zoo is one of few to offer a hands-on interaction with sloths.

Many zoos prohibit visitors from touching and holding sloths….not the Hattiesburg Zoo! Visitors are invited to hold, feed, and learn all about sloths by taking part in a “Sloth Experience.” Not interested in a hands-on experience with sloths? No problem! Check out their sloth cam live feed here.

Now you may ask, hey, why aren’t the sloths moving? Keep in mind that sloths are nocturnal, so check in on Chewy, Mo, & Maple after the sun goes down to see them at their most active.

The Hattiesburg Zoo is a treasure to all who visit its clean grounds, friendly staff, and unique and outstanding exhibits. Open since 1950, the zoo has helped countless families and visitors create priceless memories and keep them returning for more!
