Jackson George Regional Library System is hosting its annual Summer Library Program from June 1st to June 30th. The program includes a full schedule of events for all ages, with kick-off events at selected branches. The theme this year is “Adventure Begins at Your Library”, which is designed to encourage children to continue reading during the vacation so that valuable reading skills will not be lost. In addition, we hope to offer a variety of activities for children, teens, and adults. Families are encouraged to participate in the fun and learning activities together.
Bethany Carlisle, the library’s Youth Service Coordinator, is excited to offer a program that promotes positivity and entertainment for families. The program includes participation levels and activities suitable for all ages, from birth to adult. The library hopes to reach even more children and families this year, especially those who are new to the area.
Elementary students can enjoy themed activities, such as Pet Adventures, Storytelling is an Adventure, Adventures at the Estuary, and Mississippi Blues Adventure. All programs are free for adults and children, and many will offer the chance to win door prizes. Local businesses and Friends of the Library groups have donated food and prizes.

The story follows Regina Lampert (played by Audrey Hepburn) as she falls in love with Peter Joshua (Cary Grant) while vacationing in the French Alps. However, upon returning home, she discovers that her husband has been murdered. Gautier Teen Summer Library Programs
GAUTIER, MS __ The Gautier Public Library is organizing a series of adventure-based events for teens from 6th to 12th grades on Wednesdays at 4 pm in June. These events are as follows:
June 5th, 2024, students will get to experience Adventures in Gardening – DIY Herb Garden. They will create their herb garden using donated materials and recyclables.
June 12th, 2024, students will experience Adventures in Cryptology: Navajo, The Unbreakable Code. They will learn about the background of the Navajo language, its use as a secret code in WW2, and how to decipher code.
June 19th, 2024, students will experience Adventures in Space – Build a UFO. They will get to share information about local UFO sightings and create their unidentified flying object.
June 26th, 2024, students will experience Adventures in Food – Teen Taste Challenge. They will identify various food by blind sampling each.
Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library. Interested participants are requested to call and register as supplies are limited.

Summer Library Program: Tiny Art Show
ST. MARTIN, MS __ The St. Martin Public Library is hosting a Tiny Art Show for artists aged 6 and older. Starting May 1st, artists can visit the library to receive a mini art kit while supplies last. Once you have completed your tiny masterpiece, bring it back to the library by May 31st to be a part of the exhibit. The exhibit will run throughout June as a part of the Summer Library Program. Youth Summer Program Series
VANCLEAVE, MS __ Vancleave Public Library is excited to invite you to our Youth Summer Library Programs for 2024. Join us every Tuesday at 4 PM for some fun-filled adventures.
On June 4th, we will kick off the program with “Survive the Library.” Participants will compete in a series of survivor-like challenges, and the winner will receive a prize.
On June 11th, get ready for a “Cake Decorating Adventure.” Participants will be challenged to create an edible adventure scene, and all supplies will be provided by the library. The winner will receive a prize – will you “Nail It?”
On June 18th, put your map skills to the test with our “Scavenger Hunt.” Find our hidden treasure, and X marks the spot.
Finally, on June 25th, brace yourself for our “Escape Room” challenge. The mummy has been released from his tomb, and the curse is about to be unleashed. Will you escape in time, or will the library be doomed forever? Don’t miss out on the adventure – it all begins at your library!
57 Block Party: Summer Library Kick Off & Chili Cookoff
VANCLEAVE, MS __ The Vancleave Public Library is organizing a chili cookoff event and is inviting teams to participate. The event will be held on Saturday, June 1st from 10am to 2pm and there will be a $10 entry fee. The winning team will split the pot from the entry fees.
In addition to the chili cookoff, the library is hosting a Summer Library Kickoff and Chili Cookoff Block Party, which includes a carnival with fun activities for kids, such as a bouncy house, snow-cones, cotton candy, carnival games, face painting, balloon animals, and a petting zoo. Kids can participate in the carnival for just $5.
The event will also feature a car show, sponsored by Vancleave Nights, and concessions will be available.

This event is a collaboration between Vancleave Nights, the Friends of the Vancleave Library, and the library. All proceeds from the event will go towards future programming at the library.

COOKING MATTERS® for Adults with MS State Extension Service
Vancleave, MS __ Vancleave Public Library is offering a six-week course called COOKING MATTERS® for adults. The course includes a weekly two-hour class from trained educators who will teach food preparation, grocery shopping, food budgeting, and nutrition. Participants will learn how to use a knife, read food labels, cut up a whole chicken, and make a healthy meal. The course will take place on Thursdays from Wednesdays, June 19 – July 24, from 4 pm to 6:00 pm, at the Vancleave Public Library. Participants will receive ingredients to take home at the end of the first four classes to practice preparing class recipes. Some participants have already shared their experience, and Nikki said, “This class has taught me that food can be healthy and flavorful.” Meanwhile, Cassidy said, “This course has affected my household greatly. Date Night – Murder Mystery Dinner Theater
