Three sixth graders from Resurrection Catholic Elementary School wanted to do something nice for someone in the community and found a very worthy recipient — baby Brooklyn, a two-year-old child from Gautier who was diagnosed with DIPG, an inoperable brain tumor.

The students took their plan to their teacher, Laura Hudson, and said they wanted to hold a car wash and give all the money raised to Brooklyn. Hudson, the school music teacher, and religion coordinator, couldn’t have been more proud of them.

“Their idea was an awesome way to give back to people. We’re trying to teach our students the value of giving back and helping others,” she said.

When asked what prompted them to actually walk the walk and not just talk the talk, the students said that there are people who need help, and after looking around they decided that Brooklyn really needed their help. And walk the walk they did. They raised about $1500 from the car wash plus donations.

Jerry St. Pe’, the first person to have his car washed, shared his thoughts on the students’ actions. “This is an affirmation of the good and generosity in today’s young people.”
