The Bay High boys and the Pass Christian girls are the only survivors from the “Southern Six” left as the Class 4A Southe State basketball playoffs enter the quarterfinal round.

Both the Tigers and Lady Pirates head to Poplarville on Wednesday for action at Marvin R. White Coliseum on the campus of Pearl River Community College. Both “Southern Six” squads face Raymond High School with a trip to the Big House for the “Final Four” in Jackson on the line.

The Pass Christian girls will face the Lady Rangers at 5:30, followed at 8:0 by the Bay High boys and Rangers meeting at 8:30.

The Lady Pirated knocked off Quitman 43-33 Friday night in second-round action on the road to advance to PRCC. Pass Christian beat South Pike in the opening round.

The Bay High boys beat visiting Newton County 56-36 Saturday in the Tigerdome to advance to Poplarville. Avan Wilson tallied a game-high 22 points and posted a double-double as well to lead the Tigers as he pulled down 11 rebounds as well and he dished out five assists. Jaden Clark chipped in 14 points and five boards to the winning effort.

The Raymond boys have qualified for the Final Four” at the Mississippi Coliseum for the past 10 years. The last time the Rangers were knocked out in the quarterfinal round was in 2012 when the Bay High Tigers eliminated them.
