With region play now in full force in all six classifications, Friday night featured a very full schedule for prep baseball in the “Southern Six”.
In Class 6A, Harrison Central took over sole possession of first place in Region 8-6A with yet another hard-fought close win over Hancock 3-1 this time in Lyman.
The Red Rebels scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open a 1-1 tie and move to 2-0 in league play. Harrison Central nipped the Hawks as well on Tuesday in the Kiln 3-2.
There were only four hits total between the two teams Friday night. Bryan Travis and Jayden Cooper drove in runs for the Red Rebels.
Daniel Ruiz was dominant on the mound for HCS, throwing six and 2/3 inning and allowing just one hit and the one run while striking out seven and walking six to pick up the win. Max Garrett and Brennan Cuevas split time on the mound for the Hawks, with Cuevas taking the loss.

Also in Region 8-6A play, Gulfport pulled out a 5-4 win in eight innings over arch-rival Biloxi at Herbert Wilson Field. both the Admirals and Indians now sit at 1-1 in the league.
Harrison Central was set to travel back to Hancock to finish the three-game series Saturday afternoon, also with Gulfport returning to Biloxi after the Indians took a 7-3 win in the first game of the series Tuesday night.
Also in Class 6A, over in Region 7-6A, all four teams are knotted up at 1-1 in the region race after visiting Ocean Springs blanked D’Iberville 10-0 in five frames Friday night and home-standing St. Martin bombed Pascagoula 13-1 also in five innings. There will be full reports on these games after game three is played in both series on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, in Class 5A action, in Region 8-5A Gautier beat George County 4-3 and Vancleave beat St. Martin by the same score. East Central was set to host Vancleave again on Saturday night.
In Region 7-5A, Picayune beat Long Beach 9-5 and Pearl River Central nipped West Harrison 3-2 giving both Pearl River County teams sweeps in the two-game series’.
In Region 8-4A, Bay High smacked Moss Point 11-0 and Stone beat Greene County 6-1.
In Region 8-3A, St. Stanislaus hammered visiting Jefferson Davis County 17-0 while St. Patrick lost to Seminary 4-0.
And in Region 8-1A, defending Class 1A state champion Resurrection smashed visiting Lumberton 13-0.
