On February 20, 2019, the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MSLEAC) issued a report on their on-site assessment of Ocean Springs Police Department (OSPD). The MSLEAC commissioners unanimously approved OSPD for four years of reaccreditation, stating that the “professional excellence demonstrated by your department is not only a benefit to the citizens of your community but also serves as a guide to other law enforcement agencies in the state of Mississippi.”

In order to earn this prestigious designation, a law enforcement agency must comply and provide proof of compliance with 140 professional standards set forth in the 4thEdition of the MSLEAC standards. The on-site assessment team reviewed OSPD policies and practices, interviewed personnel, and closely examined files kept by the Department in order to make its determination of compliance with each standard.
