On Thursday, May 2nd 2019 the Pascagoula Senior Center will be holding their first Mother’s Day pottery sale. All the pottery is made completely by senior citizen members. The sale is from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will be held in their Live Oak Room. Anyone is welcome to attend. Twelve to Fifteen potters are involved in making wonderful displays of art.

“We have had two previous Christmas pottery sales,” says Pottery Instructor, Debbie Hodges, but this is our first time to hold the sale mid-year because we have had so many requests.” Such items as bowls, plates, angles, spoon holders, animals, card holders, bird feeders, ornaments, vases, coffee mugs, soap dishes and more will be included for the sale. Prices will range from $6-$50.

“All of our pottery is done in house,” says Senior Center Director Alma Huyett.” “We have our own clay, and our own kiln so from mud to finished product it is done in house which is something unique to our center.” Besides pottery, there are many other programs and activities available to senior citizens. Line dancing, chair yoga, bible study, senior choir, and adult coloring classes are just a few of fun activities for seniors to enjoy. The center is also hoping to add other art-based activities such as drawing and painting in the near future. Monthly newsletters and a calendar of events can be found on the Senior Center webpage.

Any seniors aged 55 and above are available for membership. Members are required to have current registration information on file. Prospective members can call current Senior Center Director Alma Huyett at (228)769-8329 or go online to www.cityofpascagoula.com for more information.
