I am delighted to tell you that the Greenhouse Biloxi, the coolest coffee shop on the Gulf Coast, has reopened after a long holiday hiatus.

The Greenhouse on Porter, the original Ocean Springs location, had been my hangout for the last six years, but it has been turned into an event location. So if you are looking for a unique spot for a birthday party, baby shower, or just a get-together with friends and family, that location is the spot.

But if it’s a good cup of coffee, espresso, or cappuccino and an interesting menu, featuring the Greenhouse’s famous biscuits, sandwiches, and daily specials, check the Biloxi location out. It is at the intersection of GE Ohr and Howard Avenue, just down the street from where the new location of the Ground Zero Blues Club will be. This part of town, after being dead for countless years, is busting at the seams with interesting projects like a wine and cheese shop, the best barbershop around, and one of the best outdoor event locations on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the District Green (if you haven’t been to one of the music events here, you are really missing out).

The menu at the Greenhouse Biloxi offers 10 variations on their famous handmade biscuits. My favorite is the biscuit and lox, featuring smoked salmon, capers, onions, and the Greenhouse signature fluff, a creamy dairy spread. Other popular biscuit combinations include sausage, egg, and Havarti cheese, and a sweet potato biscuit that is stunningly good with nothing more than a little butter and a tab of jam. There is also a daily sweet and savory biscuit, which highlights the incredible creativity of owners Kate and Jessy. On my last visit, the sweet biscuit was orange raisin with cinnamon fluff and toasted walnuts. The savory biscuit was garlic sweet potato with curried cauliflower and fluff. See what I mean?

The second part of the menu lists 10 sandwiches, like turkey, ham, homemade chicken salad, and pimento and cheese, or smoked salmon on avocado toast. There is also a newly added Greenhouse burger, which is also very good. Everything that comes out of the Greenhouse kitchen is made from scratch, including the breakfast sausage, jams and jellies, and soups.

But the Greenhouse is not just a coffee shop and café, it’s a place to meet friends, bring your computer and work on that novel you have always dreamed of writing, and meet new people too. It is an infectiously friendly hangout with a laid-back vibe, the sort of place you stop by for a coffee and end up staying for hours.

The Greenhouse Biloxi is as unique a café as can be found, and you can find me there every day!
