You went to the store in a frenzy last week and grabbed whatever food was available, and now you’re staring into the freezer full of food you just don’t feel like cooking right now. Why did you buy 20 pounds of chicken breast? And what are you supposed to do with yeast anyway?!

New social distancing policies have basically eliminated dining in at restaurants, but the good news is that most of your favorite spots are still taking orders for pickup or even delivery. Keep reading if you need a pandemic-safe meal that doesn’t involve your new stash of canned beans.

  • They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and TatoNut in Ocean Springs is here to help you start your morning off right. If you’ve ever visited the popular doughnut spot on a busy morning, you’ve seen the crowded dining area and the line of customers out the door—basically a social distancing nightmare. Times have changed, but TatoNut still has you covered. Call in your order for your favorite TatoNuts and drinks and wait in your car for curbside delivery. (Hint: Check their Facebook page for the number(s) to call or text. They had to add a second line to keep up with the demand!)
  • Seeing the daily Facebook posts from Bozo’s Seafood Market and Deli in Pascagoula and Killer Crab & Seafood in Gautier are a much-needed reminder that this is the time of year we’re supposed to be eating boiled crawfish while we have the chance. Daily social media updates from both places tell you how much you’ll pay per pound to carry out and bring home for your own crawfish fest at home.
  • What I like about what Roma’s Italian Restaurant in Gautier is that their pickup special is a deal that includes the whole family. For only $32, you can take home an entrée and bread to feed six hungry people. Only select menu items are included in the pickup special, but anything you choose from their menu is sure to beat yet another frozen lasagna.
  • I know pizza night has existed basically since people have been too tired to cook at the end of a busy day, but Lost Pizza Co. in Ocean Springs deserves a try if you have children at home who are already showing all the signs of being bored with their new life in quarantine. While you’re ordering yourself one of their specialty pizzas, sandwiches or pastas, pick up a Lost Pizza Construction Kit for the little ones who need something to do. For $9.27, your child receives a pizza box with all the ingredients and instructions to make a small pizza.
  • Going out to eat for date night isn’t happening anytime soon, but Half Shell Oyster House in Biloxi and Hattiesburg are both offering “dinner for four” deals that can help you create a cozy night in. The meals, ranging from $29.95 – $34.95 depending on the entrée, come with salad and dessert for four people. (Rave reviews on Facebook suggest it can feed even more than that, but nobody’s complaining about these leftovers, right?) If that’s not good enough, make it even better by adding a bottle of house wine to your meal for only $10 more. You deserve it for making it this long without losing your mind.

These are just a few of your many great options for takeout, but just know that almost all of your favorite local restaurants are making accommodations to stay open for business we all do our part to stop the spread of this new coronavirus.

(Restaurants are limiting gatherings of more than 10 people, so keep that in mind if you’re going somewhere where you have to walk inside to pick up an order.) If your favorite place to eat wasn’t listed here, check out their social media or give them a call next time you’re hungry. I’m sure they’d love to hear from you.
