A new event is heating up the Pascagoula River Audubon Center with a newly announced, hands-on glass-blowing class. Using just your breath and a high heat source, professional glass worker, Solange Ledwith of Swamp Girl Glass Blowing, will work with participants to shape glass into a one-of-a-kind tumbler or stemless wine glass. Only 24 slots are available for participants to try their hand at a craft that has been around for more than 2,000 years!
On Saturday, July 27, participants can sign up for a 20-minute, one-on-one session with Solange, where they can create either a glass tumbler or stemless wine glass. The $55 per person fee covers the private session, and all participants will leave with a personally-made finished product. Individual sessions will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the day of the event. Solange describes the delight that first-time students have when “hearing the roar of the furnace and feeling the weight of the blowpipe just builds the excitement and the project comes alive!”
Try something new and different this summer and consider signing up to make a wine glass for yourself or for a friend. You could even consider gifting the class to a friend!
