Gulf Islands National Seashore Park has announced the opening of the new visitor center at Davis Bayou. The park opens from sunrise to sunset, and starting Friday, August 6, guests will be welcome into the William M. Colmer building.

“So, we have had the grounds open here at Davis Bayou for some time, including the trails, fishing pier, campgrounds, and the public boat launch,” Park Ranger John Bernsteil said. “But now, [after] over a year, we will be opening the William M. Colmer Visitor Center here in Davis Bayou.”

The visitor center is located in Ocean Springs off Park Road, with regular hours from 9 am-5 pm daily.

The largest National Seashore park in the United States, Gulf Islands National Seashore Park runs from Florida to the Mississippi Islands. Davis Bayou, which is situated on the shore of Ocean Springs, is part of the Federal Park Service’s protection and preservation initiative.

Come enjoy this public green area that offers so much wildlife, picnic areas, and now the visitor center filled with educational displays, the Junior Ranger program, and an orientation documentary on the park’s history that includes the Mississippi islands, shown on in the sit-down theater.

Join the park rangers and the rest of the park staff when the William M. Colmer Visitor Center opens one week from now. Take advantage of this National Park located right here on our shoreline.
