Christmas in the country is a magical time, and it is simply enchanting at Landrum’s Homestead and Village. Christmas at the Homestead kicks off a month filled of a winter wonderland of delight that is sure to enchant children and children at heart. The first weekend of festivities begins Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, at Landrum’s Homestead in Laurel.

This very magical event marks Landrum’s 36th annual Christmas celebration. Bring the whole family and take a trip back in time to experience an old-fashioned Christmas from years ago. There will be something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Browse some beautiful works of art from talented artisans and pick up something unique for someone special on your Christmas shopping list. Mine for some gems, watch Civil War reenactments, and everyone will love getting a close-up experience to view and pet some farm animals.

Enjoy delicious barbeque food from the Smokehouse and funnel cakes. Pick up some kettle corn when you stop by the General Store and listen to the banjo stylings of Bobby Hathorn. Enjoy some clogging and blacksmith demonstrations. Take a wagon ride around the beautiful countryside and you’ll be enchanted by the twinkling, sparkling fairy lights that will bring the Christmas spirit to everyone. Roast a few marshmallows and enjoy a candlelight tour that you will never forget. And what would any Christmas event be without the “big guy” himself, Santa Claus! Come tell Old Saint Nick your Christmas wishes and take a picture so that you’ll have a very special memory to treasure forever.

This weekend’s events are the perfect way to kick off the holiday season and will definitely get you into the Christmas spirit. The first day of this event is Saturday, Nov. 30, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the second day is Sunday, Dec 1, from noon to 8 p.m., at Landrum’s Homestead and Village located at 1356 Highway 15 in Laurel. Admission is $10. Ages 3 and under are free.

But that is just the beginning of the holiday festivities for Landrum’s Homestead and Village. On Dec. 14, students ages 5-12 are invited to the Christmas Day Camp. There will be guided tours of the homestead and demonstrations by blacksmiths and other trades from years ago. The children will get the chance to make their very own ornaments and Christmas cookies. They will be thrilled as they are led on an adventurous scavenger hunt. They will get a camp t-shirt and a free candlelight tour. Registration is required and can be done by giving Landrum’s a call at (601) 649-2546.

On Dec. 14 and 21, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., you’re invited to a simply enchanting event, the Christmas Candlelight Tours. Take a magical stroll through candlelit walkways and gaze at the thousands of twinkling fairy lights that will illuminate the night. Enjoy a cup of warm cocoa, delicious funnel cake, and roast a marshmallow or two while you enjoy the beautiful Christmas music floating through the wintry woods. And, of course, Santa will be on hand to take a few pictures and hear your very special Christmas wishes. Admission is $10. Ages 3 and under are free.
