Howard Avenue in Biloxi is experiencing a renaissance like it hasn’t seen in years. Coffee shops, music venues (like Morgan Freeman’s Ground Zero Blues Club), restaurants, the baseball stadium, and even a liquor store that specializes in high-end and very rare bourbons are all recent additions.  But the newest arrival, Café 871 is something altogether different and much welcomed.

Café 871 is the inspiration of chef Broderek Mills, whose expertise is in creating classic New Orleans and creole foods, with a healthy portion of southern soul food too. Mills has years of experience as a chef but also supports social issues, like empowering local farmers and schools to promote food security and sustainability by influencing people to embrace healthy food and nutrition.

But don’t think this place is all about uninteresting salads and undercooked vegetables. The menu is brimming with classics like fried chicken, baked mac and cheese, shrimp creole, BBQ ribs, shrimp and grits, and a whole lot more. It is classic southern food but with a healthy twist.
