Today is a day that many of us will gather with our family, friends, and loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving. The holidays tend to usher in an attitude of gratitude by allowing us to reflect on what we are most grateful for.

On our ever-growing list of things to be thankful for this year, I’d like to also include the state of Mississippi.

The Magnolia State is a fantastic place to live, offering a wide variety of cultures, diversity, and delicious food!

The birthplace of America’s music also birthed some of the most renowned authors of all time, and the state is brimming with quaint towns with storied streets that could never be replicated.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast headlines often as being one of the best places to live, and rightfully so, with stunning views of the Gulf and so much to do. Locals have the best of both worlds with a hometown that feels like a vacation, with the hospitality of small-town living.

I’ve had the opportunity to live in different states and countries, and there’s no place like Mississippi. From the cotton fields of the Delta to the stunning trees of the Pinebelt and the Coast’s beautiful beaches, the Hospitality state is home, and I’m so grateful for it.

The state’s stunning scenery, history, fabulous food, the blues, and impressive literary wrap sheet certainly help create the state’s culture. However, the people of The Magnolia State embody and represent what Mississippi truly is: A home of hospitality.

People are what make Thanksgiving Day, and everyday, matter. Locals support locals, neighbors help neighbors, and the everyday things we often take for granted are appreciated and valued. My week wouldn’t be complete without Ms. Liz telling me to have a blessed day at the local grocery store, and you know what? I always do.

Be sure to take the time to reflect on what you are thankful for today and every day. Remembering that the little things are really the big things and that being together with family and friends is what Thanksgiving is really about.

What are we thankful for? Here at OUR MISSISSIPPI HOME, we are so grateful for you and the state we get to call home. Happy Thanksgiving!
