The public is invited to attend a free WaterWays Smithsonian program “The Legacy of our Forests and Rivers” at the Ocean Springs Municipal Library on Saturday, October 27, at 2 p.m. Presenter and local history expert Else Martin will host a free presentation about the use of the first trees for dugout canoes called pirogues. Hear about use of the river and forest for commerce, raising cattle and who the cattlemen were, pine tar, turpentine, rosin for commerce, and other products pre 1850. Be sure to come and be impressed about how our natural environment helped shape our culture and society. Come early for best seating in the library meeting room.
