In the midst of COVID-19, The University of Southern Mississippi, with the proper safety precautions, has allowed select classes to resume face to face lectures. The special health protocol (likely noted at the end of every class’ syllabus) specifies students will be required to oblige with guidelines. These guidelines include wearing masks in public and in class, sitting a minimum of six feet apart, being dismissed separately, and avoiding clustering. Students are also expected to monitor themselves and refrain from class if they are to experience any symptoms associated with coronavirus. Personal suggestions include avoidance of touching the face and frequent hand washing.

Students have been living on campus since early August, and campus protocols have seemingly been followed. Nevertheless, in accordance with Mississippi’s law, in-person classes were postponed until the week following Labor Day weekend. Up until that point, classes were either delivered online or via zoom. Since the time has passed, select classes are now allowed to meet face to face once again.

Many classes are still meeting online, but I am excited to get started in my two face to face classes! As they have been working so far, USM plans to continue all safety and health protocols, while delivering the best education possible. Also, if you are a student or teacher, follow protocol, wear your mask, and stay safe and healthy!
