Vancleave Library offers Soap Making demonstration class

Anyone interested in learning about hand-crafted soap making is invited to Soap Making 101 on Thursday, January 16, at 4:30 p.m. at the Vancleave Public Library.

This two-part workshop is intended for ages 17 and up. Learn safety procedures, the equipment needed, and see a demo of making both “Hot Process” and “Cold Process” soap making through the saponification of lye and oils. Invite your friends and join the fun in the meeting room.

Moss Point Library offers New Year New You Fitness for adults

The Ina Thompson Moss Point Library will offer New Year! New You! Fitness classes every Tuesday in January from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room.

Join us with instructor Lydia Dahlke for low impact chair exercise. Are you ready to start 2020 off right? Bring your friends and take advantage of getting fit for the new year and beyond. These free classes are designed for young or old and all abilities. Dates are January 14, 21 and 28.

Free Bingo on Tuesdays offered at Gautier Library

The Gautier Public Library will offer Free Bingo on Tuesday, January 21, at 6 p.m., in the meeting room. Patrons may win prizes. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Gautier Library. St. Martin Library offers Free Bingo afternoons

Relax and have fun with others at Bingo held the first Tuesday each month at 2 p.m. in the meeting room at the St. Martin Public library. Adults 17 and older will enjoy bingo and be able to win prizes. Prizes and light refreshments are provided by the Friends of the St. Martin Public Library.

Ocean Springs Library offers What to Eat Nutrition series

The Ocean Springs Municipal Library will offer a three-part “What the Heck Should I Eat” nutrition series on Wednesdays, January 15 and 22, at 6 p.m.

Want to know how to eat healthy and get fit? Every day there is new information and conflicting reports about fats, carbs, and whether a diet should be plant-based or safe to consume meat. Learn how to shop and find real food that’s easy to prepare so you can avoid the fast food drive-thru and the basics of a healthy diet. Get food prep techniques and tips on healthy eating all in one.

The series is provided by nutritionist Holly Kapusinski, MSN, RN, NC-BC. She is a board-certified Integrative Nursing Coach with over 35 years of experience in health and wellness.

Moss Point Library offers free Dance lessons for adults

The Ina Thompson Moss Point Library will host Dance, Dance, Dance ballroom and swing dance lessons on Saturday, January 11, from 10 a.m. until noon. Class is scheduled for Saturday, January 18 and 25 as well.

Have a great time while learning ballroom and swing dance styles with Montrelle Ramey, dance instructor for the library. Have fun and get healthy exercise as well. Adults 17 and up are invited to bring friends and join the fun. Sign up at the library or call 475-7462.

The Ina Thompson Moss Point Library will offer Jewelry Repair 102 class on Monday, January 13, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the meeting room.

Learn who to do simple repair with instructor Glenn Mack. Fix favorite earrings, change out the clasp of that vintage necklace, or restring a set of beads. See how to make minor repairs yourself with tools provided. Bring an item to repair.

Vancleave Library offers Unique Crochet Club class

The Vancleave Public Library will host Unique Crochet Club class on Monday, January 13, from 1 until 3 p.m. in the library meeting room. Other classes in the month will be January 20 and 27.

Patrons will learn with instructor Teresa Busby as she teaches free basic classes for the beginning student. Learn the fundamentals and become empowered to crochet with confidence. This club is for those age 15 and over.

There is a $5 fee for supplies or you may bring your own. Supplies needed are yarn and a crochet hook. Registration is required as seating and supplies are limited.

Pascagoula Library to offer Wellness Essential Oils

The Pascagoula Public Library will offer New Year Essential Oils class on Monday, January 13, beginning at 6 p.m.

Start the new decade off right with Young Living – Essential Oils. Learn about the twelve most used oils for all seasons. If you’re new to oils, this is a great opportunity to learn the basics. If you use oils now, share with others what you’ve learned. There is an optional make-and-take activity with a $5 materials fee.

Lucedale Library offers Crochet Along class for adults

The Lucedale/George County Public Library will offer Crocheting Along with Susan Alexander on Monday, January 13, beginning at 5 p.m. in the meeting room.

Join us for a free class with instructor Susan Alexander. She will teach adults how to crochet 4”x 4” granny squares in the meeting room.  Learn about what materials are needed and all that can be made with granny squares. She will show how to make something from just twelve squares made throughout the year. Come join us and socialize while learning.

Gautier Library offers Homeschool Club on Thursdays

The Gautier Public Library will offer a Homeshcool Club for young students on Thursdays once a month and will meet Thursday, January 16, at 3 p.m.

Homeschool students are invited to discover all the free resources available at the library and create a STEAM art project.  Meet other homeschool families and share information and ideas. Lucedale Library offers Effects of Second-hand Smoke program

The Lucedale-George County Public Library will offer Effects of Second-hand Smoke program on Thursday, January 16, beginning at 1 p.m. in the meeting room.

Make 2020 healthier at this free program. Anyone interested may attend and hear from Stephanie Mayfield with MS Tobacco Free Coalition of George-Greene-Stone Counties. Come learn more about the health effects of tobacco and second hand smoke. Learn about new trends in vaping and tobacco products and dangers they pose.  Get resources for quitting and discuss secondhand smoke and how it affects our community.

MS Tobacco Free Coalition works to prevent the initiation of tobacco use among youth, reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, promote tobacco cessation services, and eliminate tobacco-related disparities. They partner with schools, faith-based and community service organizations, businesses, and a number of health advocacy organizations to provide education and resources to the communities that they serve, and provide assistance to Mississippi municipalities in working toward comprehensive smoke-free ordinances.

Lucedale Library offers monthly Lego Club event

The Lucedale/George County Public Library will offer an opportunity for families and friends to join the Lego Club on Thursday, January 16, starting at 4:30 p.m. This family event is intended for ages 12 and under. Legos will be provided to make wonderful Lego creations. Children must be accompanied by parent or adult. Build a different theme each month.

Crochet class offered at St. Martin Library

The St. Martin Public Library will host a free Crochet class on Saturday, January 18, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the meeting room. Instructor Teresa Busby will offer more advanced classes for the average student. Learn the fundamentals, read patterns, and reduce your stress. Intended for age fifteen and older.

Lucedale Library offers Learning about Birds program for kids

The Lucedale/George County Public Library will offer Learning About Birds with Ann Howard on Saturday, January 18, beginning at 10 a.m., in the library meeting room.

This family friendly program will be presented by Ann Howard, Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation for Women and Agriculture Chairperson for George County, will offer up a fun-filled discussion about birds in Mississippi and what they do for the area. Children age 12 and under are invited to this fun program in the library meeting room. This program provided by Farm Bureau.

Ann Howard has been an office associate for fourteen years at Mississippi Extension Service George County. She is also the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Women and Agriculture Chairperson for George County and has been doing this for three years.
