This weekend ushers in the 104th annual South Mississippi Fair, which will continue from October 18-26 at the South Mississippi Fairgrounds in Laurel, Mississippi.

Billed as “Country Nights & Carnival Lights,” this year’s fair will include fun for everyone with delicious food vendors, 4-H exhibits, livestock shows, and a midway filled with amusement rides. Plus, the scheduled lineup of performers that fair attendees can view as they stroll throughout the fairgrounds is unbelievably diverse:

For more than 30 years, Lance Gifford’s award-winning magical illusions have amazed people nationwide. Plus, his show’s theatrical sound and lighting are astounding.

Granpa Cratchet is another family-friendly favorite, and kids will especially adore visiting his clubhouse and his friends with their silliness, antics, and jokes.

The highwire theatrics of Cirque Cyber are thrilling to watch, including three especially daring acts, “Wheel of Destiny,” “Aerial Lyra,” and “Tight Rope Walking.”

Pirate Man Dan guarantees that everyone has a jolly good time, with his stilt walking, unicycling, unforgettable music, and interactive Pirate Adventure Experience.

Strolling throughout the fairgrounds, Washboard Willy is the pied piper of rhythm and fun because his lively music puts a smile on every face, young and old.

Possibly the cutest attractions at the fair, the Emerson Farm Pig Races and Petting Zoo are kid favorites. But both events promise to provide “a squealin’ good time” for all.

As always, Midway Stage has a diverse and exciting lineup of musical talent for fairgoers to enjoy throughout the week, including Mustache the Band. Already Gone, the Nola Dukes Band, and Mike Rob and the 601 Band.

Of course, no Mississippi fair would be complete without the arts and crafts exhibits or the ubiquitous livestock shows.

Subsequently, the 104th edition of the South Mississippi Junior Livestock and Poultry Show features Mississippi youth as they competitively show their prize swine, lambs, goat, cattle, and poultry in various events. The spirit of competition and pride runs strong in this event – for handlers and their parents.

The 2024 South Mississippi Fair 4-H Youth and Adult Exhibits include six competitive divisions. Participants vie for prizes within multiple categories of those six divisions: culinary arts, creative arts, fashion arts, environmental crafts, safety and health exhibits, and bug exhibits. (The last two divisions permit only youth participants.) The fair also showcases impressive exhibits of Mississippi crops and a very competitive horticultural show.

As you can see, the 2024 South Mississippi Fair will be a blast for everyone! For more information on tickets, events, and exhibits, visit somissfair.com.
