One of the most popular party bands on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is calling it quits after eight years of delighting fans across the state.

The always fun Blackwater Brass Band, which made a name for themselves with their unique mix of funk and jazz, will be no more after summer 2023. Their unique party sound filled with blaring horns, megaphones, and high-energy performances will undoubtedly be missed.

But… you still have three chances to catch them live before the split becomes official.

The Blackwater Brass Band has the following shows still scheduled for the coastal area:

  • May 5 – First Friday on the Green “Fly Lama” in Biloxi
  • June 9 – Mosaic Restaurant and Bar in Ocean Springs
  • June 10 – Callaghan’s Irish Social Club in Mobile

For those not familiar with Blackwater Brass, band members – which vary from three to 12 at a time – have noted in the past that they were heavily influenced by New Orleans greats such as The Meters, Galactic, and the Dirty Dozen Band.

No matter where they are, Blackwater Brass takes fans back to the French Quarter. Along with plenty of classics, they have also added their own originals filled with humor and a pop style over time.

If you can’t make any of the upcoming shows, you can memorialize the Blackwater Brass Band by purchasing a copy of their new album, Disco Ready.
