Summer Programs for All Ages at East Central Library

HURLEY, MS__The East Central Library will host “All Together Now!” Summer Library programming themed around Friendship, Kindness, and Unity this summer for all ages June 5-30. There is a full schedule of events beginning with the Elementary students on Mondays at 10 am with theme activities.

Youth programs are weekly throughout the month.

June 8 @ 3 pm- Building Bridges with Our Community – Join us to learn different ways to build a racetrack and bridge from the materials provided. Participants will be split into teams and race against the clock to create the best designs in this STEM challenge.

June 17 @ 10 am – All Together Now for Gaming – Bring your Pokémon cards to trade and battle other Pokémon masters. Like playing Magic the Gathering? Fan of board games? Come meet up with others and start an adventure. The sky is the limit! Bring your handheld gaming systems and make new friends while enjoying a fun and relaxing atmosphere.

June 21 @ 3 pm – Stars of Kindness – Help spread kindness and joy in our community by making.

someone’s day brighter. Join us for a workshop on how to make origami puff stars. Once you make your creation, take It out into our community and hide it for others to find.

June 28 @ 3 pm – Knot Ordinary Bracelets – Join us as we spend time with new and old friends learning to weave jewelry from the materials provided. Create your favorite character-inspired jewelry to give to friends and family or yourself. Handmade creations are simple acts of kindness that can brighten someone’s day.

Adult programs are weekly at 4 pm with a variety of arts and crafts. The Grand Finale is Friday, June 30, 10 am to 3 pm with local musicians, young and old, to join us for an afternoon of fun, food, fellowship, Ice-cold sodas, and flame-grilled hamburgers by The Friends of the East Central Public Library.

All programs are free for adults and children, and many will offer the chance to win door prizes. Local businesses and Friends of the Library groups have donated food and prizes. Adult Summer Library Program: Mini Barn Quilts

HURLEY, MS __ It’s The Grand Finale, Friday, June 30, 10 am to 3 pm.  Come on down and sit a spell as we encourage local musicians, young and old, to join us for an afternoon of fun, food, and fellowship. 1st Tuesday Homeschool S.T.E.A.M. Day 

GAUTIER, MS __ Join us for Homeschool S.T.E.A.M. the first Tuesday of the month at 2pm.  Meet with other local homeschool families to make Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math combine learning fun! Friends of Gautier Library Monthly Meetings 4th Tuesday 

Join us every month for the Friends of the Library Meeting the 4th Tuesday of the month at 1:00pm.   We will discuss fundraising, marketing the library, and giving feedback and suggestions on programs and events. Refreshments are provided by area businesses.

Crime Will Tell! A True Crime Club

GAUTIER, MS __ The True Crime Club will meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Our group will focus on one well-known true crime case or criminal using a variety of materials and resources. Prior to the episode, the Gautier Friends will post a list of resources on their Facebook page. A copy of the resources can be found at the library or requested via email. Storytime with Mrs. Donna 

GAUTIER, MS __ Join us for Storytime with Mrs. Donna every Thursday at 10 a.m. We will enjoy music, crafts, and our favorite picture books.  Storytime is intended for children from preschool to kindergarten.

Gautier, MS __ The Jackson George Regional Library System will host its annual Summer Library Program from June 5th through June 30th with a full schedule of events for all ages and adults on www.JGRLS.org and kick-off events scheduled at selected branches.

Parents will have a place to take children and engage in this year’s theme “All Together Now” centered around Kindness, Friendship, and Unity. “Every year more and more children are reached by our programs,” said JGRLS Youth Services Coordinator Bethany Carlisle. “We always have families moving to our area, and we encourage them to get a library card and enjoy the fun and learning activities. We hope children and their parents will enjoy great every week at their library.” Wednesdays at 2 pm elementary students can interact with theme activities and schooler programs are Thursdays at 10 am.

There’s an old Irish proverb that says, “Life is like a cup of tea, International Tea Party it’s all in how you make it.” Come out and celebrate teas from around the world. Let your mind and your taste buds travel to China, Ireland, England, Russia, Morocco, New Zealand, South America, Egypt, and many other countries. Registration is required because space is limited.

Top Gun Paper Airplane Obstacle Course

Think you have what it takes to make a fast and sleek flyer? Join us in a crash course on the physics of how airplanes work. Then you will have the opportunity to build your plane and compete against others in a TOP GUN obstacle course for prizes and bragging rights! Join us at the library to see if you are truly the “Top Gun.” Sign-up is available at the front desk. Walk-ins are welcome!

Tuesday, June 20th @ 6pm – Blowing Smoke

Are you a great storyteller or a human lie detector? Come test your skills! In this game show event, two teams of strangers will take turns reading off unbelievable truths and wacky lies about themselves, then it’s up to the opposing team to question them and guess which is which. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Pascagoula Public Library and be sure to show up early if you want to play in the first round!

Saturday, July 1st @ 11 am – The South Ridge Stalker Mystery Theater

People have gone missing while hiking alone in Easthaven Forest for a few months. Some

people believe it is the work of The South Ridge Stalker. The Stalker is a half urban legend, half campfire story. He is said to appear to lone hikers in the woods, and those who encounter him are never seen again. When four hikers stumble across what they believe to be The Stalker’s lair, you, a Will Street Detective, are sent out to investigate the site. Will this lead be a dead end, or will you find evidence to corroborate The Stalker’s existence and solve the mystery of many disappearances? Space is limited, so registration is required.

ST. MARTIN, MS __ Thursday, June 15 at 5:30 pm, Join us for this fun and educational program where we will be talking all things oysters! Learn fun facts about this local mollusk and its importance to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We will also be repurposing old oyster shells by decoupaging and embellishing them to give them new life!

All Together Now! Self-Care and Supper

ST. MARTIN, MS __ Join us for our self-care and supper summer library finale program, Thursday, June 29 at 5:00 pm! We will be hosting a potluck recipe swap. Bring your favorite dish with a copy of the corresponding recipe and enjoy dinner with friends, new and old. VANCLEAVE, MS __ Join us Saturday, June 24, 11 -3 pm on the back lawn for our All Together Now summer program finale concert, showcasing Mississippi musicians! Weather permitting, this is an outdoor event, please bring your lawn chairs, umbrellas, sunscreen, and water and lend your voices.
