Inductees were Kenneth Borries, Ozzie Bosarge, Tom Caffrey, Monte Moncrief, and Erin Sanford.
“The Athletic Hall of Fame was created to showcase the wonderful athletes who represented their school in the past,” said Bragg Moore, committee member and emcee for the event.
According to information provided by the organizers, this sophomore class of inductees had quite the accomplishments:
Kenny Borries, OLV Class of 1966: He played football at OLV and earned honors for the most touchdown rushes in a season, and for being the leading scorer in the Pascagoula River Conference. He attended MGCCC-Perkinston and was a member of the State Championship teams in 1966 and 1967. In 1967, at Perk, he was named the Most Valuable Player and earned the honor of being the first player in Perk history to rush for 1,000 yards. He was also the leading scorer during that time. He also played football at the University of North Carolina and finished his college career at Mississippi College. His football career ended due to an injury sustained during his time with the New Orleans Saints.
Ozzie Bosarge, OLV Class of 1963: He attended OLV for twelve years and was very active in sports. He was a four-sport athlete – football, baseball, basketball and track, lettering in football and basketball. In the 8th grade he played on the first OLV soccer team for Coach Father Patrick Quinn. He helped lead the OLV football team to an overall record of 23-8, including a 4-0 record in post-season play. In addition to team records, he received outstanding back awards in the 1962 Turkey Bowl and 1962 Jaycee Bowl. He was also named to the Gulf Coast All-Catholic Conference Team and to the first team for the Singing River Conference. He received a scholarship from Louisiana State University to play football under Coach Charles McLendon. After college, Ozzie returned to OLV and served as a non-paid assistant coach for almost ten years with his fellow Hall of Fame classmate, Monte Moncrief.
Tom Caffrey, OLV Class of 1987: He participated in track and cross country for three years and soccer for two years. He was a 5-time MHSAA State Champion in track and cross country. He still holds the state record for the 3200 meters for Class 1A schools. He held the overall state record for the 3200 meters for 14 years before the record was broken. While in college at The Catholic University of America, he was the NCAA Division 3 National Champion for the 1500 meters in Track and Field. After college, he returned to OLV/RCS to share his talents where he coached track and cross country for ten years.
Monte Moncrief, OLV Class of 1963: He attended OLV for twelve years and participated in football, baseball, basketball and track, lettering in all of these sports. In the 8th grade he played on the first OLV soccer team for Coach Father Patrick Quinn. He was a crucial member of the OLV football team and helped lead them to an overall record of 23-8, including a 4-0 record in post-season play. He attended Auburn University on a football scholarship and also participated in track and wrestling. After college, he returned to OLV and served as a non-paid assistant coach for almost ten years with his fellow Hall of Fame classmate, Ozzie Bosarge.
Erin Sanford – RCS Class of 2005: She was a member of both the track and cross country teams, as well as a member of the Diocesan SEARCH team, CYO, Youth Legislature, National Honor Society and Z Club. Her accolades include multiple state championships and she was the leader of the 2001 XC State Championship team. She attended Millsaps College and then received her RN from the University of South Alabama and her Masters from the University of Southern California. Erin was state champion for track in the 800 meters (2000, 2001 and 2003) and she earned the best time of all classes 1A-5A during the 2003 win; 400 meters (2002 and 2003); and for cross country in 2001 and 2002.
