It’s time again to add to the holiday cheer in Pascagoula with the sale of the memorial angels that are placed along Beach Boulevard. In addition to the angels, for the first year, businesses and individuals can buy holiday snowflakes to add to the other Christmas decorations along Delmas Avenue.

The memorial angel program started a few years back as a way for Pascagoula residents to honor and pay tribute to a loved one who had passed on, according to Rebecca Davis, executive director of Main Street Pascagoula.

There are 65 angels total to purchase that will be hung along Beach Boulevard. Those who purchase an angel also get to decide what the corresponding banner will say.

“This is a great way for someone to express their love for a loved one who is no longer with them,” Davis said. “It’s a tribute to them from family and friends.”

This year, individuals and businesses can also buy decorative snowflakes to represent their business or other personal endeavors. These 40 snowflakes will be placed in the downtown Pascagoula area along Delmas Avenue.

“Since we have our big Christmas event downtown – Downtown for the Holidays – this will just add more beauty to the season,” Davis said. “The holidays bring family, friends and visitors to town and this is a way to make things even more beautiful. Everyone loves holiday decorations.”

The snowflakes are also a way to build community pride in bringing people together, Davis said.

The decorations will start to go up in November and will stay up until the end of January. The cost of the decorations goes into the purchasing, maintenance, and storage of the lights, as well as putting them up and taking them down.

Those interested in purchasing a holiday snowflake or a memorial angel can find the application form at the City of Pascagoula’s website. Memorial angels cost $350 and are put up for two years. The cost includes the personalized banner. The snowflakes cost $350 for a standard size one along Delmas Avenue and $500 for a large size one placed at the intersections along Delmas Avenue. These are put up for two years and also include a customizable banner.
