The Resurrection Eagles stood strong in the opening round of the boys’ Class 1A state basketball playoffs Tuesday night in Pascagoula.

But in the end, visiting Sebastopol pulled out a 63-58 win in overtime to eliminate RCS from the postseason in the process.

The Bobcats led throughout most of the first three quarters, including 37-25 at halftime. But the Eagle’s comeback started in the third frame, as they managed to cut the double-digit deficit at intermission into just a one-point disadvantage at 44-43 entering the final quarter thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Jaylon Harper as well as five points including another trey fro D.J. Pickens in that stanza as RCS out-scored the Bobcats 18-7 in that span.

Six more points from Pickens including a 3-pointer as well as a trey from Carter McCamron allowed the home-standing Eagles to tie the game up at 56-56 as regulation came to a close and force the extra session.

But Sebastopol out-scored RCS 7-2 in the overtime period to pull out the win.

Luke McGarrity tallied 13 points to lead the Bobcats to the win in what was a totally balanced Sebastopol scoring attack as nine different players scored in the winning effort.

Resurrection got a game-high 18 points from Daniel Pikens, including eight in the first quarter to help keep the Eagles within reaching distance of the Bobcats. Harper chipped in 15 points to the RCS cause, while D.J. Pickens added 13 points and McCamron finished with 12 points.

Also, the St. Patrick girls smacked Magee 62-39 in the opening round of action on Monday night to advance into the second round.
