Mississippi is very fortunate to have so many knowledgeable farmers and gardeners in our midst who bring their homegrown goodness to farmer’s markets all around the state. If you’re looking for some garden-fresh fruits and veggies for your picnic, cookout, or dinner table, we’ve got the 411 on the top farmer’s markets in your area and around the state. Here’s your guide to Mississippi farmer’s markets. 

The Mississippi Farmer’s Market in Jackson

Held in the Capital City at the Mississippi Fairgrounds, the Mississippi Farmer’s Market is one of the largest markets, covering over 18,000 square feet with 32 stalls brimming with the latest bounties from Southern gardens. You’ll find only the freshest from the farm, ranging from watermelons to peaches and cucumbers to butterbeans and everything in between. You can also find arts and crafts from some of the very talented artisans in the state, and you can even enjoy breakfast and lunch at the Farmers Market Café inside the market. Mississippi Farmer’s Market hours are Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Ocean Springs Fresh Market

Located in the downtown area of this charming coastal town, the Fresh Market is open every Saturday, rain or shine, and all vendors are always local. Inspired by European food and plant markets of yore, Ocean Springs seeks to uphold the traditions of bringing only the best offerings from small producers, plants, and flowers grown in the region and the freshest fruits and vegetables in season. Visiting here is a more personal experience, and you can meet the farmers and gardeners who grow your food. You’re also invited to join the fellowship, fun, and great foods every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Hattiesburg Farmers Market

Seeking “to improve the quality of life and health of communities across the Pine Belt by promoting positive social engagement focused on fresh food,” every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Downtown Hattiesburg’s Town Square Park is the place to be to find the freshest veggies and fruits, delicious food selections, arts and crafts, music and fun.

Midtown Farmers’ Market

In the lovely city of Oxford, you’ll find only the freshest seasonal fruits and veggies, freshly baked cakes, bread, pies, and other goodies, grass-fed beef, and pasture-raised eggs. You’ll also find some of the most beautiful flowers and plants to accent your dinner table and home. The Midtown Farmers’ Market is open on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pick something fresh for dinner or stock up on some canned goods for the winter. 

Starkville Farmers’ Market

Held on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Fire Station Park in the land of the Bulldogs, the Starkville Farmers’ Market offers not only the best locally grown fruits and vegetables but also delicious baked goods, gorgeous live plants, and beautiful arts and crafts. While picking up some fresh goods for dinner, stick around and catch a cooking or gardening demonstration. There are also DIY sessions, fun activities for the littles, and incredible live music. Every Saturday at the Market is “a fun family affair.”

The Pass Market

If you’re looking for everything from farm goods to fish, stop by the Pass Market in War Memorial Park in Pass Christian every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. There’s always a mixed market of produce, fresh goods from the farm, baked delectables, arts and crafts, yard art, flowers, and so much more. It’s one-stop shopping in the Pass as you can pick up the freshest seafood from the Gulf at the Fish Market in the East Harbor and locally raised beef and meat at the West Harbor Meat Market.

Hernando Farmers Market

Every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., you’ll find something exciting happening there. While local farmers and gardeners bring you the best produce around, there are always special activities scheduled for just about everyone in the family. Enjoy a day geared for the kids with lots of children’s activities and special surprises, or wake up with the sun and take part in Sunrise Yoga at the market. You might find DIY dog treat kits or purchase some special cookies so artfully done to represent the beautiful creatures from the sea. The Hernando Farmers Market has been voted one of Mississippi’s favorite farmers’ markets, and you’ll definitely see why.
