Feeding the Gulf Coast is gearing up to support families in Coastal Mississippi who were already scheduled to get assistance that may also be affected by the spread of COVID-19.

The nonprofit has been planning a food distribution to more than 500 households for April 4 at First Baptist Church on Popps Ferry Road. The food distribution, while not open to the public, will benefit families who were pre-selected by partner agencies.

Volunteer and Food Drive Manager Missy Busby says they’re now in dire need of manpower to get the job done next Saturday.

“Unfortunately, all of our volunteer groups for this event have had to cancel as of this morning. We are looking for anywhere from 40-50 volunteers to help with the distribution,” said Busby.
