Get up close and personal with nature through personal kayaking tours along the bayou and surrounding waterways from the Pascagoula River Audubon Center. These calm waters make a great adventure for first-time and experienced kayakers alike and provide a different view of bayou life and birding.
Rent a kayak or launch your own any time between 9 a.m. and noon on regular business days. The Center provides kayak, paddle, and life jacket rentals for a three-hour fee of $15 for a single kayak and $25 for a two-person kayak. Kayakers are also welcome to bring personal kayaks and gear and pay a $5 launching fee.
Reserve the kayaks ahead of time by calling 228-475-0825. Spend some time exploring the Center and its grounds after the kayak adventure and enjoy the Moss Point Fine Art Gallery, the nature trails, native plants, and some local inhabitants, including the legless lizards or bluegill sunfish in the exhibit hall.
Kayak enthusiast and longtime volunteer, Bruce Norton, described kayaking the bayou and said, “It’s a nice little bit of solitude in the middle of downtown Moss Point.” He continued, “This river system is a great place to see herons, egrets, ospreys, and the occasional alligator.”
Kayaking the bayou is available year-round and makes a great outing with friends, an outdoor date, or simply to escape the pace of work or life.
