It sure has been raining, and the constant showers have us all begging for sunshine.

One group that’s really begging is Mississippi’s shrimpers.

“A lot of freshwater, which pushed the shrimp out, didn’t allow for the shrimp to grow,” Captain Michael McDaniels of Vancleave said. “The season has just been bad so far. We are hopeful for a good fall season.”

Nonetheless, McDaniel remains optimistic as it’s still early on in the season.

After looking at the weather report for the next few nights, he has decided to venture out. You can find the captain, with some shrimp to sell, currently docked at the Ocean Springs Harbor.

Support your hard-working shrimpers and buy local. When available fresh shrimp can be found regularly at several harbors across the coast, including Pass Christian, Biloxi Small Craft, and Ocean Springs.
