In response to the challenges brought upon teachers, students, and caregivers through the COVID-19 outbreak and the stay-at-home orders issued across the U.S., Chevron has donated $500,000 to DonorsChoose to support its Keep Kids Learning initiative. The Keep Kids Learning initiative provides teachers from the country’s highest-need schools (schools where 90%+ students qualify for free and reduced lunch), including those in Jackson County, with $1,000 in grants to purchase personalized educational care packages and essential supplies for students to keep up with their curriculum at home.

“Investing in the communities where we operate is a core Chevron value. In Pascagoula, a key focus for our social investment is on preparing today’s youth for tomorrow’s careers. In 2019, Chevron invested more than $500,000 to support education projects across the Mississippi Gulf Coast including K-12 STEM curriculum, school supplies, scholarships, STEM summer camps, and post-secondary learning,” said Amy Brandenstein, Community Affairs for Chevron.

Eligible teachers will be able to shop for pre-approved urgent and essential items such as books, basic supplies like pens, paper, and calculators, arts and crafts materials, as well as shelf-stable groceries and hygiene items from the DonorsChoose program.
