Pascagoula Public Library is celebrating May 4th, otherwise known as Star Wars Day, in a very special way this year. For the first year in Pascagoula, and the sixth year in Gautier, hopeful Jedi of all ages can come and learn the ways of the force. Starting at 10:00 a.m. and going until noon, come to receive the best training in all the galaxy.

Costumes are greatly encouraged for this event, and young Padawons will participate in fun activities such as making their own lightsabers, creating adventure companions, and most importantly, learning the ways of the force. Upon completion of their extensive training, Jedi Masters will receive a robe and certificate that they have indeed mastered the secrets to the galaxy. Light refreshments will also be provided for the celebration.

“It’s fun to do something that has a wholesome, relevant theme,” says Pascagoula Library Manager Angela Stewart. “Jedi are the good guys of the galaxy, and it’s great for children to have those positive role models.” Mrs. Stewart also stresses the importance of actively visiting your local library. “Anything that gets people excited about coming to the library with their families is a wonderful thing because the more often they come through the doors, the more opportunity they have to see the things that we can offer them for free.”

jedi campFree is perhaps the best part of visiting your local library. It does not cost anything to sign up for a library card, and each month there are quite a number of free, as well as fun, events and activities for patrons of all ages to enjoy. May 4th will also be the re-grand opening of the children’s area at the Pascagoula Library. It’s amazing how a fresh coat of paint, murals, and new furniture can breathe new life into an already magical place.

Gautier Public Library will also be celebrating Star Wars Day with their Jedi training beginning at one p.m. Jedi training at both locations is absolutely free to the public and there is no signup required. All ages are welcome to participate in the festivities. Obtaining a brand new library card is free and easy to do. All that is required is a photo I.D. and proof of a local address such as a utility bill, or other letter mailed to your street address.
