For years, coffee has been an integral component of American culture. Who knew that a little coffee bean would become such a beloved staple in our lives? Amongst many coffee shops in Mississippi is one called Coffee-Haus. Located in the city of Columbia, Coffee-Haus has gained great popularity with locals and across the state for its mouthwatering coffee selections.

The owner of Coffee-Haus is Caleb Brown. Brown is an Abilene, TX native. He started his business in November 2021 and has not looked back since. People have many different reasons as to why they want to start a business. For some, it’s a hobby. For others, it is financial. However, for Caleb, his goal is simply love for people and the community overall.

Coffee-Haus. Two words. Coffee. Haus. I was intrigued by the concept of this rather straightforward name. Brown tells me that simplicity was the goal in the naming of his business. “Coffee-Haus just makes sense. Every town needs one,” Brown remarked.

The life of business ownership is one with many twists and turns. One of the primary challenges that Brown mentions is getting others to buy into his vision. While this is a hurdle to overcome, the joys of being a business owner outweigh the challenges. Brown says that serving his employees and his community overall is the most rewarding aspect of owning Coffee-Haus. And when he is in the midst of tribulations, his Christian faith keeps him grounded.

“I open my Bible every morning and I pray to Jesus,” Brown said, adding that his wife (Kristy) and daughter (Dreighton) keep him uplifted, motivated, and encouraged on his journey as a businessman.

No matter if you prefer your coffee more classic and subtle or if you’re looking for something sweet and fun, Coffee-Haus has a set of unique flavors for every kind of coffee lover. Brown’s favorite is the Elvis Presley Latte. My personal favorite is the Toffee Crunch Frappe, which is filled with crunchy toffee chips blended with the most delicious cold brew coffee and milk. I reckon I’ll grab my keys and drive down to Columbia to get one now!

While Coffee-House has already seen success, Brown has bigger plans for the future of Columbia’s staple coffeehouse.

“Our goal is to build a business model that can be replicated, franchised, and focused on the small market communities in South Mississippi,” he said.

Business expansion in Mississippi is important to the economy of our state. With Brown’s business savviness, Christian faith, and encouragement from his family, there’s no doubt that he will continue to serve the south Mississippi community — one city, one county, one delectable cup of coffee at a time.
