In only her second year at Beach Elementary, Brittany Murray, a 3rd-grade teacher from Pascagoula, has been named Beach Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Murray has been a teacher for five years and teaches all subjects – English/Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. She previously taught second grade at Jackson Elementary for two years and Kindergarten at Beach Elementary.

She began her Elementary Education degree at Mississippi State University and after she moved to the coast, she finished her degree at Southern Miss in Long Beach.

Murray is honored to be named as Teacher of the Year.

“Beach Elementary has the most supportive principal, teachers, and parents, and being a part of this school community has contributed so much to my personal learning and growth as an educator,” Murray said.

Murray always wanted to be a teacher because she always had a love for children and for learning. While attending MSU she taught preschool at a local church and enjoyed working with children so much that she wanted to continue her teaching journey in elementary education.

“Being able to witness the learning and growth of knowledge in my students is always such a blessing. Watching them experience success in their own learning, building character and positive relationships are just a few of the many reasons why I love teaching.”

Being a part of her students’ lives and contributing to their learning and growth is her favorite part of teaching.

“Building positive relationships and making a difference is something that drives my passion for teaching. Nothing makes me happier than watching my students grasp a concept, become critical thinkers, and make progress in their learning. Honestly, the majority of the time I am learning just as much from them as they learn from me. My students become such positive influences on my life, and I will strive to always do the same for them.”

Murray attributes her strength and success as an educator to the support of her family.

“My husband, Dean Murray, always pushes me to be my best self. We have five children – Ruby, Nixon, Sunny, Chloe, and Coleman – who show me so much love and teach me patience and understanding.”

When she is not working, she enjoys reading, running, and going to the islands with her family.
