You might remember Eat Drink Love from its old location on Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs.  It had that old school Ocean Springs feel to it, shaded by huge live oaks, had lots of picnic tables outside, but what most people remember more so than the ambiance was the amazingly good food. There were daily specials, great sandwiches, and plates, and some of the best take home for supper prepared foods around.

Times have changed and Eat Drink Love moved some months ago to 701 Bienville Boulevard, right at the edge of Davis Bayou and next door to the Marian Cantina. Two great places side by side. There is a great patio on the north side that wraps around to the east, looking over a small harbor. There is also a second story deck, so the outside options are great. There are also plenty of larger windows in the dining room, so no matter where you sit the view is great. In fact, Eat Drink Love may have the best view of any restaurant on the Coast.

EDL was famous for some pretty over the top daily specials, and that certainly has not changed. Recently I saw curry cauliflower chickpea, soup, a spicy tuna wrap with seared ahi tuna, cucumber wasabi sauce (wow!), fresh jalapeño, pickled carrots, fresh cucumber, arugula, avocado, & sriracha in a warm tortilla and a veggie Panini with grilled zucchini, hummus, roasted tomatoes, spinach, goat cheese, on house made sourdough bread. Double wow. Some things just don’t change!

“Sharing with you beautiful, delicious, thoughtful food,” is the moto at EDL and I cannot think of a more apt description. The menu includes breakfast, small bites, sandwiches and a few salads, I do not think I have ever seen a more thoughtful menu. It is concise but covers all the bases

Breakfast includes buttermilk biscuits, with sausage, applewood bacon or tomato and avocado, or five breakfast sammies, piggy pimento (P&C with ham), chicken and biscuit, the Big John (sausage, bacon, scrambled egg, tomatoes and pickles on brioche), BLAT, a cleaver combo of bacon, scrambled egg, chipotle aioli with avocado and tomato and a loaded veggie burrito. If you are really hungry go for the breakfast bowl, loaded with bacon, sausage, pimento and cheese, scrambled eggs, toast and jam, or Huevos rancheros bowl, but if you are feeling healthy, try the yogurt bowl, with granola, mixed berries, toasted almonds, coconut with a honey drizzle.

There are four small bites, which include shrimp scampi dip, turnip and artichoke dip, chicken salad and pimento and cheese and a charcuterie plate (chefs’ choice). The sandwiches selection includes all my favorites, a good burger, roast beef, ham and brie, chicken salad, pesto turkey wrap, and pimento grilled cheese and a small hand full of salads. On my last visit we had the pimento and cheese and the ham and brie, both of which were excellent.

EDL was one of my favorite places when it was on Porter Avenue, but now, with a new location, brand new restaurant, and spectacular view, it will be a place I will visit even more often.
